About Us

Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (ASAP) was created in 2000 after being awarded Tobacco Settlement funds at the Kentucky General Assembly.

The Laurel County ASAP’s goal is to reduce the prevalence of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs among youth and adults in Kentucky and to coordinate efforts among state and local agencies in the area of substance abuse prevention.

In 2004, KY-ASAP began working with the Office of Drug Control Policy in Frankfort. There are now over 100 local ASAP boards in the state of Kentucky. Some accomplishments that KY-ASAP is known for are smoke-free initiatives within several communities, and financial assistance for drug dogs, bullet proof vests, DARE programs, and Cooper-Clayton smoking cessation programs.

Today, the organization provides approximately four to five programs a month to area schools and occasionally partner with schools outside of the Laurel County School District upon request. The ultimate goal is to provide up-to-date, evidence-based education, and coping skills. Laurel Co. ASAP also works with many agencies in London, Laurel County and across the Commonwealth to provide cohesive and collaborative programs, events, and presentations.
